In many defense applications, the biggest challenge is not performance – but the environment.
Saltwater, vibrations, extreme temperatures, direct sunlight and high-speed movement all place unique demands on systems that must remain fully operational at all times.
In this session, Expando shares the story behind Expando Storm – a rugged control and computing platform developed based on real operational needs from the Swedish Armed Forces.
Rather than focusing on specifications, we explore the challenges that shaped the solution:
- How do you design operator systems that remain usable on a high-speed RIB boat in open sea?
- How do you ensure visibility and control in direct sunlight, heavy motion and harsh weather?
- What does it take to build systems that perform reliably in both mobile land platforms and naval environments?
We will discuss how extreme environmental conditions – rather than ideal lab scenarios – drove the design decisions, from display technology (including NVIS compatibility) to physical interfaces and system robustness.
This session highlights how real-world conditions are redefining what “rugged” truly means in modern defense systems.
